As you align your smile, you might notice your bad breath from time to time. If this is the case, your oral hygiene could be suffering, and it’s time to step it up a notch.

Bad breath generally occurs when food gets stuck in your braces for a long amount of time. When this happens, the food sends an odor into your mouth, resulting in bad breath. So, to keep this from happening or to solve the problem, please do the following things:

· Brush your teeth: It is highly recommended to brush your teeth after each meal and snack. This will help you remove the food particles that stick to your appliance and give you bad breath. It’s easier to carry a small, travel-sized toothbrush and toothpaste around with you so you can brush when you need to.
· Floss your smile: Flossing will also help with the bad breath because it will remove the food particles your toothbrush couldn’t reach. So, make sure you floss after you brush and you are gentle around the gum line as you do so.
· Use mouthwash: Mouthwash will clean your smile and kill the bacteria that is causing the bad breath. Try rinsing at least once a day with a beneficial mouthwash that your dentist or orthodontist recommends.

If you brush, floss, and rinse frequently, you will have the fresh breath you are looking for.
