Do you treat your TMJs with tender loving care? Your TMJs, also called your temporomandibular joints, are those joints in your jaw that play a crucial role in your mouth’s capacity to open and close. Symptoms that they may be damaged include:

-popping noises from your jaw
-the incapacity to fully open and close your mouth
-pain within your jaw or in and around your ears
-discomfort when speaking, chewing, or yawning

If your TMJs have been hurt, here are some helpful hints that can lead to an effective recovery:

– Certain foods and behaviors might injure your TMJs – like nail-biting, chewing gum constantly, or rough or chewy foods like steak.

– Your TMJ disorder may be caused by a different disorder like bruxism – a condition in which one unconsciously grinds his or her teeth, often while asleep. Obtain a custom night guard from your dentist or even a mouth guard from a sports warehouse to protect your teeth and jaw.

– Meditation like yoga, calming music, and biofeedback are excellent stress relievers that can assuage pressure on the jaw.

– Joint pain related to TMJ disorders can be treated with heat or ice packs.
