How to Take Care of Damaged Braces

Posted .

Your new set of braces represent a serious investment in realigning your teeth so you can achieve the winning smile that will serve you for many years to come. Even though your braces are designed to be durable, there are a few habits and activities that can bend, loosen or damage your braces in North Bend, Washington. Any damage to your braces, or tooth decay problems from poor oral hygiene, will likely increase your total treatment time.

If you do have a problem, you should call Kirby Nelson Orthodontics as soon as possible to have it addressed so you can minimize the complications.

When we installed your braces, you were given a piece of special orthodontic wax. If a loose or broken bracket, band or wire is poking into your cheek or gums, you should try to cover it with the orthodontic wax. If you don’t have the wax with you, you can improvise by adjusting the broken piece with a pencil eraser.

Sometimes a spacer will fall out of your mouth. When this happens, you should call your orthodontist, Dr. Kirby Nelson, and ask for advice, or you can schedule an earlier adjustment appointment.

If you have any problems with your braces, or if some part of the hardware is damaged, broken or loosened you should call Kirby Nelson Orthodontics at 425-888-1896 to schedule an appointment.
