At Kirby Nelson Orthodontics, our team is devoted to protecting, strengthening, and improving your smile. At times, our orthodontists recommend braces to accomplish these goals. However, we realize that having braces or another type of orthodontic appliance can make your oral hygiene more difficult. It is still extremely important to maintain good oral hygiene habits to fight against decay and gum disease. To help you keep your teeth clean with braces, we are happy to provide you with these instructions.
How To Brush With Braces
Always brush your teeth in a circular motion, and be sure to brush your mouth thoroughly and completely. This includes the areas behind your archwire. To clean these areas effectively, angle your brush. We also recommend that you brush at least three times a day while you have braces.
How to Floss With Braces
Along with brushing, it is important to floss daily while you have braces. To do so, simply thread the floss between your archwire and proceed to floss as normal. When you have thoroughly flossed one area, move to another. While you are flossing, it is important to avoid pulling on the wire itself.
We also recommend that you rinse every time you clean your teeth, or after you have certain beverages like soda or juices. When you visit us, we will be happy to answer any questions you may have and will gladly offer more personalized advice for orthodontic hygiene in North Bend, Washington. We invite you to contact Dr. Nelson and Dr. Katz today if you would like to learn more about how to keep your mouth clean while you have braces.
